Taking cue from success stories of small budget films like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and THE BLARE WITCH PROJECT, Balaji Motion Pictures and Dibaker Banerjee take the road less traveled and decide to bank on a film that cost them an approximate 1 crore - LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA aka LSD.
Giving us some insight reveals a trade analyst “In today’s day and age where producers are spending big bucks on films with huge star casts and exotic locations but suffering at the cost of a fragile script, Balaji Motion Pictures is doing a smart thing by investing less in frills and not compromising on content that’s sure to spell success”
LSD has also not compromised on its publicity and marketing activities - “Be it the LSD cards or LSD Guru. The promotional videos or even the title song…the makers of LSD are making sure they’re going all out to do just what they planned - shock, question and interest audiences the nation over,” adds the analyst.
Bipasha Basu harassed
She is one of the hottest ladies in bollywood. But, this title comes with its own share of troubles. Recently, Bipasha Basu had to pay the price for being the hottest diva in town.
Reports are that at a recent awards ceremony, Bipasha Basu was at the receiving end of some sexist comments. The crowd gathered to witness the awards ceremony went out of control and started using indecent language to get the actresses’ attention.
When the crowd began to use words like Bipasha, ‘Beedi Jalaly Le’ and ‘Item Girl’, the actress decided to walk out of the venue much to the surprise of the organizers. An irate Bipasha stormed out of the ceremony making it clear that she was not going to bear with all the non-sense from the unruly crowd.
Finally, the awards were given away by the organizers themselves leaving the affair mired in unnecessary controversy.
Kareena Kapoor donates Rs 3 lakh
Kareena Kapoor is not only the top billed star in bollywood but also someone who believes in helping others. The actress recently donated a cheque of Rs 3 Lakh to bring smiles to the residents of a remote village in Madhya Pradesh, who live in abject poverty.
According to sources, Kareena Kapoor had a brush with the villagers during one of her shoots and the generous villagers had even gifted her handmade shawl. In order to return the favour, Kareena decided to help the villagers with some cash reward which would be used to generate solar power in the village.
Kareena was moved to notice that the village had no electricity and she decided to donate Rs 3 Lakh to the villagers in order to help them out of this problem. Now, Kareena has also decided to involve more of her friends into such kind of social work. Kareena feels that it’s her moral duty as the citizen of this nation to help the underprivileged and she has already taken the first step.
Yash Raj movies making film festival rounds
ROADSIDE ROMEO selected for Cairo International film festival for children 2010:
Two names - Yash Raj Films and Disney - that are synonymous with quality and success, add yet another feather to their caps with the selection of ROADSIDE ROMEO - India’s first fully animated 3D film recognized as being at par with Hollywood productions - at one of the most important children film festivals in the world - The Cairo International Film Festival For Children, which takes place from March 4th to 11th this year.
ROADSIDE ROMEO released worldwide on October 24, 2008. The movie has received immense praise and numerous awards all along. Featuring the voices of Bollywood superstars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor as Romeo, Laila along with comedian Jaaved Jaffrey as Charlie Anna, the film has been written and directed by the talented Jugal Hansraj.
The official screening for ROADSIDE ROMEO will be held at the Opera House at the Small Theatre on the 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th of March during the festival. The film will be screened in the Competition Section.
Juhi Chawla hopes for luck by KKR in IPL-III
Kolkata Knight Riders Co-owner Juhi Chawla on Friday said she was hoping for Lady Luck to smile on her team to help them be a winner all the way.
Juhi Chawla was in town to announce Kolkata Knight Riders’s association with United Spirits Limited’s McDowells’ No1 to launch the “Luck De” contest. Every KKR match ticket owner can enter the contest by stating the unique thing that brings them luck. And the lucky winners will get a chance to greet the KKR team before they get on with their match.
Juhi said, “I will be present for all the matches of KKR here. We are proud of Dada (Sourav ganguly). He has the captain’s luck and he is a fighting cricketer and hope he brings that dash to the team.”
“Going with the luck factor we have changed the black colour of our jerseys to purple and hope that gives us a Purple Patch. The team management is working very hard both on and off the field and we are confident of doing well. We just need the luck as we said,” she added.
She also hoped that an amicable solution be reached in the stand-off between National Broadcasters Association (NBA) and Indian Premier League (IPL). The 34 Channels under the NBA have boycotted the IPL after a disagreement over feed sharing. However, with just a week to go for the third edition of IPL to commence everybody is expecting a reasonable solution.
Answering questions on the NBA boycott the KKR Co-owner said, “I cannot comment on it.”"But like all the IPL franchisee we also need coverage and this standoff will affect it. But we are a component of IPL and we will stand by whatever decision IPL think tank takes. But I hope things will resolve amicably,” she added.
Besides the Luck De campaign, McDowell’s No 1, will also invite members of the club to special screenings of IPL matches on big screens at select sports bars and lounges and offer premium hospitality to enjoy the season.
Juhi said, “The association is a fantastic venture and we are very much looking forward to McDowell’s helping us find our lucky fans with No. 1 spirit. We would like luck and No. 1 spirit to be with us everywhere, no matter whether we’re at home or away. And this is why this campaign is so important to us.”Talking about the forthcoming meeting with the state Sports Minister Kanti Ganguly regarding the KKR ticket sales, she said, “I hope things will be taken care off on Monday.”

Preity Zinta’s kids throw her a surprise party
The effervescent Preity who had adopted 34 orphan girls from the Mother Miracle School in Hrishikesh last year was in for a pleasant surprise this birthday.
We come to hear that though Preity was out of town for her birthday this year her adopted kids from Hrishikesh threw her a belated surprise party when she went to visit them.
Reveals a source close to the star “Preity was on an emotional rollercoaster when the kids surprised her and sang to her when she went to visit them. She was smiling and laughing and completely overwhelmed with their gesture-she had a blast with the kids”
Preity Zinta who looks after the 34 children’s education, food, clothes, stay etc makes it a point to visit and check on them.
“In fact when she went to meet them she was geared with chocolates, clothes, toys etc that she picked up during her trip abroad. This is the first birthday she has celebrated with the kids and it’s one she’s never going to forget,” confirms the source.
Says an emotional Preity, “It’s an amazing feeling to be part of their lives. I’m going to make it a point to visit them at least twice a year. They are my children, my responsibility now.”

Neil Nitin Mukesh is harbouring a new fantasy these days. The actor wants to own a pet desperately, but is worried about his mom who is against all kind of pets.
Now, Neil has a new idea. The actor is planning to shift into a bigger pad so that he can accommodate his pet too. Reportedly, Neil is planning to shift his base from Nepean Sea Road to Worli. The actor believes that once he shifts into his new pad he will be able to convince his mother to allow him a pet.

TEES MAAR KHAN Akshay gets handcuffed
Akshay Kumar, Bollywood’s box office king will next be seen alongside Katrina Kaif in Farah Khan’s comic caper TEES MAAR KHAN.
Akshay, who plays the lead in TEES MAAR KHAN had a very interesting incident happen to him on the sets, his hands were handcuffed for over 4 grueling hours.
Now before you get ideas let us clarify that while Akshay Kumar was shooting in Filmcity for a particular scene that required him to be handcuffed the only key that opened the cuffs broke leaving Akshay handcuffed.
Reveals a source ‘The cuffs had a single key that opened them. But while trying to open the handcuffs the key broke leaving Akshay handcuffed for over 4 hours since there was no spare key and it took a considerable amount of time for another key to be made.’
However Akshay Kumar being the professional, that he is, took it in the right spirit and went around sets handcuffed until another key was made.
Farah Khan’s TEES MAAR KHAN starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is slated to release on 24th December 2010.
Kareena gifts Mercedes to sister Karisma
Kareena Kapoor not only believes in working hard but also enjoying the fruits of her hard work. Reports are that the actress has become one of the highest paid female stars in bollywood; Kareena Kapoor is splashing cash at the moment.
Buzz, is that the actress has bought herself a swanky S-class Mercedes that has cost her a whopping Rs 75 Lakh. Not only this, the actress has also booked another Merc for her sister Karisma Kapoor. This will be Bebo’s gift for her dear sister who will be delivering her second baby soon.
Initially, Bebo wanted a BMW 7 series but later settled for the S-Class Merc. Reportedly, Saif is also planning to book a Mercedes Benz sports convertible for himself, but is still waiting from taking the plunge.
Raima: Aparna Sen called me Konkona
Actor Raima Sen used to become a scared little soul on the sets of THE JAPANESE WIFE when she started shooting because she was afraid of the director of the movie - the much acclaimed film-maker Aparna Sen.
A source working on the project informs, ‘Raima heard that Aparna Sen is a task-master and that she does not spare anyone even if there is a minute error. Aparna is a perfectionist and she likes each and every member of her crew to be a perfectionist as well. Filmmaking is her passion and she likes to work with people who are equally passionate about their work. She does not waste time in loose talk and her professionalism rubs on to everyone.’
Raima confirms the same: ‘Initially I was very scared of Aparna Sen because I heard that she was a tough task master. But I bonded with her. Each time she screamed at me for not getting a scene right, the next thing she would do is to pamper me. She treated me like her daughter. There were times when she would end up calling me Konkana instead of Raima. Every evening after the shoot we would go for long walks.’
The informer adds: ‘People who haven’t been able to match up to her high standards have naturally not got an opportunity to work with her and perhaps they have gone around telling others that Aparna is a tough task-master but I can tell you that, that’s not the case. Raima too seems to have heard that Aparna Sen is tough to work with. She was wrongly told that if she would make a mistake, Aparna would come down heavily on her.’
